On his show Thursday night, The Daily Show host Jon Stewart interviewed Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the U.N., about the controversy surrounding the Benghazi attack.
Rice noted that Congress had already received ten hearings on the deadly attacks, along with thousands of documents. She told Stewart that Republicans in Congress who still questioned the event had “ample” evidence of what happened.
Stewart, however, insisted the Obama administration’s response to the attacks was convoluted and confusing. The administration had first announced the attack happened amid a spontaneous protest against an anti-Islam film, but later admitted no protest occurred. The attack was actually planned and carried out by militants sympathetic to al Qaeda.
“There is always confusion when you have a tragedy of that sort, and Americans are killed” Rice responded. “The bigger tragedy is we’ve spent all of these months trying to figure out the origin of some talking points, which were cleared at the highest level of the intelligence community, and in my opinion not enough time doing the service that we owe to our fallen colleagues.”
